Agriculture: Building Your First Water Irrigation System

Are you thinking of starting an agriculture business? Do you love growing crops and suddenly you want to make a living out of it? Well, there are several steps to take before you can begin an agriculture business in the Philippines such as renting land, choosing the seasoned crops to plant, hiring a few workers for help and having your water irrigation system. These are just a tip of an iceberg, managing an agriculture business requires time, effort and energy but hey you can go a long way if you have the right people and tools/machines accessible.

What is a Water Irrigation System?

Irrigation is the artificial application of water to the soil through various systems of tubes, pumps, and sprays. Irrigation is usually used in areas where rainfall is irregular or dry times of drought is expected. There are many types of irrigation systems, in which water is supplied to the entire field uniformly.

Parts of an Irrigation System

  • Water Timer - Irrigation timers program your sprinklers or hoses to water at regular intervals. You can change them according to season, weather, and so on, and they’ll water your lawn automatically, ensuring that you never leave your lawn high and dry.

  • Control Valves - These control the fluids in your facility with maximum guarantees of reliability and quality.

  • PVC Pipes & Fittings -According to PVC Fittings Online, both Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 pipes are common types of irrigation PVC pipes. They handle pressure roughly the same, so you won't have to worry about more frequent breaks if you opt for Schedule 40. Schedule 80 pipe has thicker walls and is subsequently more structurally sound, so you might want to go with Schedule 80 pipe if you are building an above-ground system.

  • Sprinkler Head - A device used to irrigate crops, lawns, landscapes, golf courses, and other areas. They are also used for cooling and the control of airborne dust.

  • Filters - The filters are essential elements to avoid obstructions in irrigation systems, whether a ring, mesh or perforated cylinder.

  • Drippers - The most critical segments in the drip irrigation system. The function of all drippers is to control the flow of water from the inner, pressurized side of the pipe into the atmospheric pressure outside the pipe.

Good luck in setting up your Drip Irrigation system. Hopefully, this information will help you build it like a Pro!
